Effects of Sati Meditation on the Mind, Psychological Acceptance and Tranquility of Middle School Students

Abstract
The study is intended to know how Sati medication affects the mind set, psychological acceptance and tranquility of middle school students. For the purpose of the study, a program that considers juvenile development and their psychological features was adopted based on medication that is used in temples in Maha city, Myanmar. Specifically, focused on sitting and walking meditation, the study was extended even to lying meditation and life meditation as increasing meditation time proper to middle schoolers. In a test process, out of 40 female and male middle school students who participated in the Juvenile Sati Meditation Camp supported by B Temple in Gimhae city, Gyeongnam, 20 students were randomly assigned for each of a control group and a treatment group in a test for 3 nights and 4 days. To verify effects of the program, the mind set, acceptance-behavior relations, and psychological tranquility of the two groups were measured before and after the program execution. Data was processed with SPSS/WIN 15.0 statistics software and a t-test to measure average difference between the two groups after the test. The analysis showed significant effects of Sati meditation on the mind set, psychological acceptance and tranquility of middle school students. In particular, reality recognition and concentration among sub-factors of the mind set and positive personal relations among sub-factors of psychological tranquility presented the most significant differences. In this perspective, students who showed a high level of reality recognition and concentration through Sati meditation also have a high level of psychological acceptance and accordingly of psychological tranquility including positive personal relations. The future research direction and limitation of the study were also discussed.
